Two PolyU Science projects funded by Research Impact Fund

Congratulations to Prof. Terence Lee and Prof. Zheng Zijian of the Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology for receiving funding from the RGC Research Impact Fund 2022/23. The project led by Prof. Terence Lee is “A novel approach to target cancer stemness using peptidic chimeric antigen receptor (pCAR) macrophages”, while the project led by Prof. Zheng Zijian is “Flexible and Stretchable Batteries for Wearable Applications”. The two projects have been awarded a significant funding amount of HK$9.7 million.

Dr Amber Chiou and Dr Cesar Wong received the President’s Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Services 2022

Congratulations to Dr Amber Chiou and Dr Cesar Wong of the Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology on receiving the President’s Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Services 2022! Dr Chiou and Dr Wong have set up the PolyU Diagnostic Laboratory (PU-MDL), which became one of the HKSAR Government recognized local COVID-19 testing institutions. The lab has provided COVID-19 testing service to the PolyU community, Tokyo 2020 Olympics athletes and the Hong Kong Sports Institute staff amid the pandemic. The President’s award recognizes the team’s contribution and commitment to the community. Our warmest congratulations again to Dr Chiou and Dr Wong!

Five PolyU Science projects funded by the NSFC/RGC for Collaborative and Joint Research Schemes

Five research projects led by PolyU Science scholars have been funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Research Grants Council (NSFC/RGC) under the Joint Research Scheme (JRS) and the new Collaborative Research Scheme (CRS) 2022/23 Exercise. Under the Collaborative Research Scheme, two projects have been awarded a total amount of HK$7.164 million. While under the Joint Research Scheme, three research projects have received total funding of HK$3.555 million. The research projects cover topics in information technology, new material science and applied mathematics. The NSFC/RGC supports research projects jointly proposed by Mainland and Hong Kong researchers for their scientific merit. Five PolyU Science Scholars recognised as Highly Cited Researchers 2022 by Clarivate

Dr Huang Bolong and Dr Yu Ka-ming Iris of the Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology, Prof. Loh Kian-ping, Prof. Wu Tao and Prof. Yan Feng of the Department of Applied Physics are named in the list of Highly Cited Researchers 2022 by Clarivate for their significant research impact, reflected in their publication of multiple papers that have been frequently cited by fellow academics. The list identifies the world’s most influential researchers, determined by the production of multiple highly cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in the Web of Science citation index over the last decade. Prof. Chen Xiaojun and Prof. Wang Zhian received research grant from the NSFC/ RGC Joint Research Scheme

Congratulations to Chair Professor Chen Xiaojun and Professor Wang Zhian who have received the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC)/Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong Joint Research Scheme (JRS) to support their research proposals jointly submitted with researchers in the Mainland China. Professors Chen and Wang will receive HKD1,244,750 from RGC, respectively. Chen Xiaojun

Prof. Chen Xiaojun conferred Fellow of the American Mathematical Society 2023

Congratulations to Prof. Chen Xiaojun, Chair Professor of the Department of Applied Mathematics, for being conferred as a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society 2023 in recognition of her contributions to mathematical optimization, stochastic variational inequalities, and the analysis of non-differentiable functions. Founded in 1888, the American Mathematical Society (AMS) is the most influential mathematical society in the world. AMS is dedicated to advancing mathematical education and research, connecting the diverse global mathematical community, and fostering an awareness and appreciation of mathematics and its connections to other disciplines and everyday life.

Prof. Tsang Shik-chi Edman bestowed the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award in Scholarly Achievement

Congratulations to Prof. Tsang Shik-chi, Edman, Professor of Inorganic Chemistry and Director of Wolfson Catalysis Centre, University of Oxford, on receiving the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award in Scholarly Achievement. Prof. Hao Jianhua secures key program funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China

Congratulations to Prof. Hao Jianhua, Chair Professor of Materials Physics and Devices in the Department of Applied Physics for securing Key Program Funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. In this project, Prof. Hao's team will collaborate with researchers from Nankai University and Sichuan Normal University to address the key scientific issue of achieving a multi-mode neuromorphic device and break the barrier of neuromorphic computing restricted by the limited working mode through developing novel materials and devices.
