Welcome to the Faculty of Science of PolyU.

Our Faculty is comprised of four constituent departments including the Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology (ABCT), the Department of Applied Mathematics (AMA) and , the Department of Applied Physics (AP), and the Department of Food Science and Nutrition (FSN). We have over 190 academic staff and offer a comprehensive range of academic programmes covering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

With the implementation of the departmental scheme-based admission since 2022/23 academic year, the elements of artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, innovation and entrepreneurship will be incorporated into our undergraduate curriculum to enhance students’ competitiveness with diverse capabilities. We are devoted to holistic education context for its students by offering ample exchange and internship opportunities locally and internationally. Students are encouraged to gain real life experience in the workplace and international outlook through the support of Sponsorship for Internship Enhancement Programme.

The Faculty has fostered a dynamic research culture. The achievements in research encompass breakthroughs that gained international recognitions, with credit to our dedicated research teams. Our research efforts are underpinned by state-of-the-art facilities including one State Key Laboratory, four University Research Facilities and seven Research Institutes/ Centres. The excellent results of Research Assessment Exercise 2020 showcased our community’s collective efforts, proving the quality of our research work “world-leading” and “internationally excellent”. We highly appreciate our colleagues for their contributions and research endeavours.

Since 1 July 2022, our Faculty has been renamed from the Faculty of Applied Science and Textiles (FAST) to the Faculty of Science (FS) and we are pleased that the Institute of Textiles, due to its growing reputation as a world-class fashion school, is detached from FAST to become the new School of Fashion and Textiles. We are also delighted to see the establishment of our new department, the Department of Food Science and Nutrition from 1 Jan 2023 with the rising importance of food safety and nutrition. We would like to express our warmest gratitude for your patronage of FAST over the years, and we sincerely hope that you will continue to support us on our new journey as FS.

The repositioning of the Faculty as FS is not just sustaining its growth and reputation, but taking the development of the Faculty to the next level. We would strive to become a world-leading hub of impactful research, professional education and vibrant knowledge transfer projects.

Hope you enjoy reading our website and we look forward to your visit to our community.
