Introduction

This book provides a comprehensive introduction to English grammar for all students of linguistics and English language. Grammar is examined in real-world contexts which engage students. These contexts are language development in young children, grammatical breakdown in people with language disorders, and the use of grammar by speakers of non-standard dialects of English. In seven chapters, students are introduced to the study of grammar, word structure, major and minor word classes, phrases, clauses, and sentences.
