On 27–28 October 2025, the international conference New Perspectives in the History of Sino-Western Scientific Exchange was held at the Department of Chinese History and Culture (CHC). The conference was organised by Prof. Han Qi (CHC), with strong support from the Sin Wai Kin Chinese Humanities Development Fund and the Faculty of Humanities at the University. Sixteen scholars from China and South Korea attended the event. Keynote speeches were given by Prof. Chang Chia-Feng from Taiwan University and Prof. Lim Jongtae from Seoul National University. Over four thematic sessions, participants presented their latest research findings. The presentations covered a broad range of topics, including the transmission of science between China, East Asia, and the Arab world during the Song and Yuan dynasties, Sino-European scientific exchanges in the 17th and 18th centuries, and the spread of Western science in China from the 19th to the early 20th century. Subjects discussed included astronomy, natural history, geology, medicine, and the historiography of science. Through new historical materials, innovative methodologies, and fresh perspectives, the presenters highlighted recent advances in the study of the history of Sino-Western scientific exchanges.
