SLA, Corpora, and GenAI: Where We Stand and What Lies Ahead. The 11th International Conference on Second Language Acquisition in China. Chinese Association for Second Language Acquisition (CASLA) and Fudan University, Fudan University, Shanghai, China, 17 – 19 October 2025.
Abstract
The convergence of second language acquisition (SLA), corpus linguistics, and computer-assisted instruction has opened various possibilities for data-driven language education and research. With the advent of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), these fields now face both transformative opportunities and challenges. This presentation explores how linguistic frequency data, derived from corpora, can optimize L2 instruction across diverse registers. I will highlight innovative approaches, including GenAI-powered conversational agents that adapt to learners’ needs, offering personalized practice and feedback. By demonstrating tools and activities, I hope to illustrate how corpus-based insights aligned with SLA theories (especially in workplace contexts) and GenAI integration can foster authentic, communicative learning experiences, reshaping language education across contexts.
