Wiring China Conference

Events

On 14-15 February 2025, Prof. Zhang Yu from the Department of Chinese History and Culture organised a conference entitled “Wiring China: Information, Affect, and Media Technologies” (連綫中國:信息、情動與媒介技術) at PolyU. Associate Dean, Prof. Hang Xing, delivered the welcome address. Featuring a keynote by Prof. Margaret Hillenbrand from Oxford University, this one-and-a-half-day event brought together scholars from eight local institutions as well as scholars from Taiwan and Singapore and a few scholars from the US and Europe who participated online. The conference explores a wide array of topics, ranging from folkloric media, wartime education, and grassroots mediations to platform economies, queer visibility, and intermedial spectatorship. It offers an interdisciplinary perspective on the intersections of media, culture, technology, and society across both historical and contemporary contexts.
