Multifarious Activities Held by the Self-learning Unit of the Chinese Language Centre from January to June 2025
Events
With a commitment to delivering high-quality Chinese language learning and supporting students through a diverse range of activities and workshops, the Self-learning Unit (SLU) of the Chinese Language Centre (CLC) has successfully hosted a variety of events in the first half of 2025. The SLU has become a hub of activity, hosting workshops, seminars, classes and inspiring teaching sessions for our teachers and students. The topics included Chinese Writing Skills, Modern Chinese Culture as well as Putonghua Testing Skills. The SLU working group of the CLC organised seven events in the first half of 2025, attracting over 100 participants.

These activities were hosted by seasoned staff from the CLC. Dr Lam Chuen-pan and Dr Zhang Yi’s lectures focused on literature review and reference citation in academic writing; Ms Choi Yuk-ling and Ms Wong Hoi-yi provided an interesting introduction on Chinese and Hong Kong film directors. Additionally, Dr Cheung Yuen-man gave a close reading on mystery novels, and Dr Tao Dora guided students to write the Spring Couplets and how to prepare for the PSC testing. These events successfully enhance students’ knowledge and practice in Chinese.
Over the past year, the CLC re-cataloged and organised the SLU’s collection, adding 1,000 new titles (including books on AI usage). The total collection now comprises 2,868 items. The aforementioned books have been categorised and shelved to enable faculty and students to locate the required materials more efficiently. The CLC hopes that it will be helpful for students to make good use of these resources to address their research and learning needs.
