Working with the four faculties to organise departmental and faculty competitions, the ELC provided briefings, workshops and rehearsal sessions for the participants. The sixteen finalists were selected through faculty 3MT competitions in mid-June.

The winner, who will represent PolyU at the Asia-Pacific 3MT competition, was Ye Zhongnan of CEE.  A special mention must be made of FH’s Wilson Lam from CBS who won the Runner-up award (second prize). Congratulations to Wilson and the other three winners! Part of the winner’s prize was ELC funding to go on to represent PolyU at the Asia-Pacific 3MT competition in October. The ELC will work with Ye Zhongnan to further improve his presentation skills before the competition.

3MT is a research communication competition originated at the University of Queensland in Australia. Since its inception in 2008, it has gained popularity and is now held at universities all around the world. It highlights the power of effective communication and provides a platform for graduate students to develop and hone their communication skills. The competition requires participants to present their research in just three minutes aided by only one static PowerPoint slide. It trains students to tell their research story to a non-specialist audience.
