ELC Academic Advisor Prof. Douglas Bell’s Visit

Events

ELC’s Academic Advisor Prof. Douglas Bell visited the English Language Centre on 3-5 May. Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, Prof. Bell was unable to be physically on campus and the visit was conducted fully online through Zoom; however, this did not hinder his visit and he was able to meet numerous ELC colleagues, review the Centre’s curriculum, subjects, the Centre for Independent Language Learning (CILL), and ongoing projects. During the visit, Prof. Bell also delivered a talk titled ‘Reflecting on the Cinderella Status of Methodology in EAP’, arguing that much greater prominence needs to be given to pedagogical matters in EAP research.

Prof. Bell is a Professor of English Language Education in the School of Education and English at the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, and also serves as the Director and Admissions Tutor for the MA TESOL and the Co-ordinator of Postgraduate taught courses.
