The 3rd Cross-Strait Hong Kong and Macao Service-Learning Student Conference (2026) was successfully held at PolyU
The 3rd Cross-Strait Hong Kong and Macao Service-Learning Student Conference was successfully held at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) from 28 February to 1 March 2026. Jointly organised by PolyU and the Cross-Strait, Hong Kong, and Macao Service-Learning Education Network, the event was co-organised by the Silk Road Youth Development Center of Xi’an Jiaotong University, SWUFE-PolyU Healthy Youth Development Research Center, and Guangdong University of Technology. The conference aimed to deepen cross-regional exchange and the sharing of experiences in Service-Learning.
This year's conference, generously supported by the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, focused on the theme "Sharing Students’ Service-Learning Achievements." It gathered 36 undergraduate and postgraduate students from 30 universities across four regions. Participants showcased a variety of community service outcomes through individual video presentations and group thematic discussions. This event provided an opportunity to exchange practical experiences and strengthen collaboration across regions.
A key highlight of the event was a thematic panel discussion hosted by Dr Ernest Kwok-keung Tse, representative of the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, who engaged in deep dialogue with young scholars from various backgrounds. Building on the success of the previous conference, a cultural excursion to Cheung Chau Island was organised, allowing students to immerse themselves in the local community and gain a deeper understanding of the essence of Service-Learning through first-hand experience. At the closing ceremony, Prof. Daniel Shek, Associate Vice President (Undergraduate Programme) of PolyU, delivered a speech encouraging students to cherish the opportunities provided by the conference to broaden their horizons, build lasting friendships, and enhance their understanding of cross-cultural cooperation.
PolyU remains committed to promoting the development of Service-Learning, encouraging students to apply their academic knowledge to create a positive social impact. Through this conference platform, the University hopes to inspire students to deepen their understanding of service through reflection, learn from one another, and grow together as they inject youthful vitality into social innovation and sustainable development.
