Welcome to the Chinese Language Centre of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University!
The Chinese Language Centre (CLC), under the Language Education Institute of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, serves as the University's core unit for Chinese language education. Our mission is to inherit, apply and innovate Chinese language and culture through dynamic, academically rigorous and inspirational teaching. Aligned with the University's educational vision, we deliver student-centred, holistic language education — integrating AI tools, innovative pedagogies and real-world social practices — to nurture well-rounded innovators with a global vision, a strong sense of national identity and a commitment to society.
Our comprehensive curriculum encompasses the newly launched compulsory undergraduate subject AI as a Tool for Language Learning, alongside credit-bearing subjects in Language and Communication Requirement (LCR), Discipline-Specific Requirement (DSR), Cluster-Area Requirements (CAR), Chinese for Non-Chinese Speaking Students (NCS) and Service Learning (SL), systematically covering Putonghua and Cantonese communication, intercultural competence and humanities literacy. Beyond the classroom, we regularly organise seminars, workshops, cultural projects and overseas exchanges, enriching students' language use contexts and strengthening their communicative competencies for academic and professional success.
Our distinguished team of scholars and educators, with expertise spanning applied linguistics, Chinese language and literature, and educational technology, fosters an inspiring learning environment that encourages independent inquiry and lifelong growth.
Looking ahead, we will continuously refine our curriculum, deepen our integration of frontier technologies including artificial intelligence, and expand partnerships with local, Mainland and international institutions, industry partners and community organisations. We warmly welcome all stakeholders to join us in shaping the future of innovative language education.
