Key Professional Achievements

I am a capital markets and governance specialist with over 19 years of experience in cross-border IPOs, mining project financing, and issuer-side execution. I played a pivotal role in the successful dual listing of Jiaxin International Resources Investment Limited on HKEX and AIX, helping deliver 2046x oversubscription in the Hong Kong public offering and 21x oversubscription in the international placing. I have also led IPO preparation, governance restructuring, investor-facing disclosure, and capital planning across listed and pre-IPO companies in Hong Kong and Mainland China. My work focuses on bridging strategic resource assets with international capital markets through strong governance, credible disclosure, and disciplined execution.

Reasons for Pursuing a Doctorate Programme

I chose to pursue a doctorate because I wanted to move beyond practical execution and build a deeper, more systematic understanding of how capital, governance, real assets, and market institutions interact. After many years of leading IPO, financing, and governance work, I increasingly felt the need to integrate practice with research. The doctorate allows me to step back from individual transactions and examine broader questions around value creation, regulation, corporate strategy, and cross-border capital formation. It is also a way for me to refine my thinking, strengthen my intellectual discipline, and contribute ideas that may be useful to both academia and industry.

Why do you choose PolyU DIREC Programme

As the former CFO of a real estate company, I chose the PolyU DIREC programme because it sits at the intersection of real assets, finance, investment, construction, and market practice. That interdisciplinary structure is highly relevant to my professional background. My work has consistently involved projects where capital markets, resource assets, governance, and long-term value creation must be considered together rather than separately. DIREC provides a rigorous doctoral platform that is both academically grounded and professionally connected. I was particularly attracted by the programme’s international outlook, practical relevance, and the quality of its faculty and peer cohort.

Overall Learning Experience from Studying DIREC Programme

My learning experience in DIREC has been both intellectually challenging and highly rewarding. The programme has helped me move from an execution-focused mindset to a more analytical and research-oriented perspective. It has strengthened my ability to frame industry problems in a more structured way, engage with theory critically, and connect real-world practice with academic inquiry. I have also benefited greatly from interacting with classmates and faculty members from diverse professional and academic backgrounds. That exchange has broadened my understanding of the built environment, investment decision-making, and the long-term dynamics of real asset development and capital allocation.

Outcomes/Expectations from Studying DIREC Programme

The programme has sharpened my ability to connect market practice with research, and I expect it to continue strengthening both my professional judgment and academic thinking. In the long run, I hope it will help me contribute more meaningfully to cross-border capital markets, governance practice, and knowledge development in asset-backed and real-asset related transactions. It also supports my long-term goal of building a more integrated platform that combines execution, governance, and thought leadership.

Advice for Prospective Candidates

My advice is simple: do not pursue a doctorate only for a title. Enter the programme because you are genuinely ready to question your own assumptions, deepen your thinking, and invest in a long-term intellectual journey. For experienced professionals, the value of doctoral study is not only in academic knowledge, but in learning how to think more rigorously, write more clearly, and see your field from a higher level. Be disciplined, be patient, and stay curious. The more sincerely you engage with the process, the more transformative the experience will be.
