【PolyU Alumni Week】Past Meets Plate: Walled City and Chiu Chow Culture Journey

Kick off Alumni Week with a journey through the stories, heritage and authentic flavours! The Alumni Culture and Heritage Tours Club, Alumni Foodie Club and Alumni Photography and Films Club warmly invite PolyU alumni to join us, together with family and friends, to explore the nostalgic streets of Kowloon City.

Led by experienced docents, we will stroll through Kowloon City and step into this community rich in nostalgic stories and character. From heritage landmarks to neighbourhood streets, participants will discover traces of the city’s past woven into its urban fabric through engaging commentary and on-site exploration.

The tour will be followed by a specialty lunch at the long-established Lok Hau Fook Restaurant, which has proudly served diners for over 72 years. Renowned for its dedication to traditional craftsmanship, the restaurant offers authentic Chiu Chow cuisine that is simple yet refined, allowing participants to enjoy classic flavours and reconnecting with fellow alumni in a relaxed and convivial setting.

The restaurant is also a popular filming location for Hong Kong movies. One of the memorable scenes from the blockbuster film Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In — the iconic “Brother Chau Banquet” scene — was filmed here. Veteran actors such as Francis Ng and Anthony Wong have also appeared at this location. With its nostalgic décor and distinctive old Hong Kong atmosphere, the restaurant has long been favoured by filmmakers. Film enthusiasts are most welcome to join.

Event Highlights:

• In-depth guided cultural tour of Kowloon City, featuring Stone Houses Family Garden, Hau Wong Temple, Kowloon Walled City Park and its Kowloon Walled City: A Cinematic Journey Movie Set Exhibition, Lok Sin Tong, and distinctive neighbourhoods known as “Little Thailand” and “Little Chiu Chow”
• Special tasting experience featuring Stone Houses Coffee
• Traditional Chiu Chow lunch (Menu)
• Movie location experience at one of the iconic filming sites of Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In

Alumni price: HK$130 per person (regular price HK$280) includes docent-led tour, lunch and basic insurance
