Programme Aims

The Master of Science in Cybersecurity programme empowers students with comprehensive knowledge and skills to address the evolving challenges in the field of cybersecurity. Combining technical expertise with strategic management insight, the programme develops graduates who can not only safeguard critical information assets but also uphold integrity, accountability, and trust in strengthening organisational resilience against emerging cyber threats.

 

The objectives of the programme are to:

  • Identify and assess cybersecurity risks within an organisation, and developing strategies to mitigate potential threats;

  • Understand and apply cryptographic algorithms to secure data and communications in various applications, including AI and IoT;

  • Implement network security measures to protect against cyberattacks and threats;

  • Develop and enforce cybersecurity policies and procedures that align with organisational goals and regulatory requirements;

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including technical teams and executive management, to advocate for cybersecurity initiatives and policies;

  • Understand professional ethics, social responsibilities and all-round capabilities which can contribute to society and the development of Hong Kong and China; and

  • Keep abreast of innovative, up-to-date and advanced cybersecurity technologies, enabling participants to engage in life-long independent learning.

Curriculum

Programme Structure

Students must complete a total of 31 credits for MScCYS. All subjects carry 3 credits, except for the Dissertation (9 credits) and Project (6 credits). 

 

In general, each subject takes place once a week in the evening over a 13-week semester. Full-time students are enrolled in 5 subjects per semester, while part-time students choose 2 or 3 subjects. Some subjects may be offered during the summer to provide students with greater flexibility in designing their own study programme. 

 

Students are required to complete the compulsory 1-credit subject "DSAI5T09 Academic Integrity and Ethics in Computer and Mathematical Sciences" to satisfy the Academic Integrity and Ethics (AIE) requirement for graduation. No credit fee will be charged for this subject.

Entrance Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computing/Computer Science/Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics or other related disciplines. 

  • Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in other disciplines with at least 3 years of relevant work experience in IT will also be considered.

If you are not a native speaker of English, and your Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification is awarded by institutions where the medium of instruction is not English, you are expected to fulfil the University’s minimum English language requirement for admission purpose. Please refer to the "Admission Requirements" section for details.
