The Master of Science in Microelectronics Technology and Materials is designed to develop high-calibre talents with the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to contribute to the development of the booming semiconductor industry.
Based on the expertise of the Department of Applied Physics in device physics and materials science research, this one-year programme provides students with unique and professional training in the process flow of microelectronics and integrated circuit design, simulation, fabrication and processing, characterisation, and inspection.
Upon completion of the Programme, students should be able to:
(i) analyse the properties of semiconductor materials and the performance of microelectronic devices;
(ii) utilise knowledge and skills in key aspects of semiconductor material processing, microelectronics devices and systems fabrication;
(iii) evaluate device design and process flows, and devise strategies to improve device performances and process yields; and
(iv) demonstrate the ability to engage in continuous development as a professional in the microelectronics industry, through inquiry and reflection on the current technological development.
The MSc in Microelectronics Technology and Materials provides extensive training for physicists and engineers to meet national, regional and local demand for talent in the microelectronics industry. The programme is designed to develop expertise in integrated circuit design and manufacturing, in line with the national policy of supporting the development of scientific research and advanced manufacturing. This policy is strongly supported by local policies in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, ensuring the career prospects of our graduates.
