Cheung Ka-yee's winning design “Legend of Jörmungandr”

Warm congratulations to a BA graduating student Cheung Ka-yee, who was named a winner at the prestigious New Zealand Best Design Awards 2025 (China Division) in the Product Design (Student & Academic) Category with her visionary creation, “Legend of Jörmungandr”.

Inspired by the Norse mythological serpent called Jörmungandr, Ka-yee’s hypnotic design captivated audiences at the 2025 show. The piece masterfully blends elements of snakes, dragons, and sea worms through advanced digital craftsmanship. Utilising polylactic acid or PLA and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene or ABS to conduct 3D printing, she crafted a show-stopping tail, intricate claws, and striking body details, complemented by an ergonomic silicone and thermoplastic headpiece that delivers dramatic theatrical impact without compromising wear comfort.

The award-winning work stands out as a remarkable fusion of ancient mythology, wearable art, and cutting-edge 3D technology.
