Visualised language learning experience to foster social interaction between local and international students inside uni

In Hong Kong, international students make up 25% of the university population, yet interaction with local students remains limited as the social environment often prioritizes Cantonese over English. Students tend to stay within separate language groups, reducing opportunities for cultural exchange. The campaign is built on the insight that both groups are curious about each other’s languages and cultures. A simple, universal icebreaker is: “How do you say this in your language?” Canto Me centres on three elements: a series of leaflets, a card game event, and an assistance web app. Together, they place students in a balanced learner position, create a low-pressure environment for interaction, and support language learning. Rather than emphasising perfect speech, the campaign highlights that sincere attempts to communicate are what truly build connection.
