Summary
As artificial intelligence continues to transform creative practice, the convergence of art, data, and computation is reshaping how cinematic works are conceived, taught, and experienced. This presentation explores how emerging technologies enable transformative workflows for visual storytelling and film education, organised into three interconnected pillars.
First, the talk examines Data Storytelling, specifically the evolution of data videos as a hybrid narrative form that integrates cinematic aesthetics with analytical insight. Second, it delves into Immersive Learning, showcasing the application of virtual environments to support creative training and artistic pedagogy.
Finally, it explores the frontier of Human-AI Collaboration, moving beyond AI as a simple tool to AI as an active participant in the creative process. Dr Xu will discuss how human-AI co-exploration can facilitate the crafting of complex research narratives, and how interactive pre-visualisation frameworks can enhance the collaborative synergy between directors and cinematographers. By synthesising these directions, this session reflects on the shifting paradigms of authorship and aesthetic agency, offering a robust framework for designing future art-tech collaborations in the age of algorithmic creativity.
