Biography

Mr Tony Wong is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from PolyU (1997) and a Master of Health Science in Gerontology from the University of New England.

Prior to his academic appointment in 2014, Mr Wong built over 16 years of extensive clinical expertise within the Hospital Authority. His practice covered acute, rehabilitative, and community settings, with variations in neurology, neurosurgery, general surgery, internal medicine, and geriatrics. He developed specialised competences in cardiac and stroke rehabilitation.

At PolyU, Mr Wong is actively involved in service-learning. He has forged partnerships with more than 20 local NGOs to deliver meaningful, impactful community interventions and promotes interprofessional teamwork across health disciplines. Over the past decade, he has led numerous service-learning projects that have received significant recognition through both local and international awards. He also supports and supervises student-led service-learning initiatives, including community rehabilitation projects in rural Chinese Mainland (Yunnan and Sichuan) and international programmes in Mongolia and Cambodia. His work emphasises client-centred services and inclusive practices for vulnerable populations, with a strong passion for supporting underprivileged client groups, particularly individuals with spinal cord injury and ALS. In 2023/24, Mr Wong received the Department Outstanding Service Team Award.

Complementing his clinical and academic roles, Mr Wong is a certified sex therapist and life coach. He integrates a holistic, person-centred approach into both his professional practice and teaching.
