Academic Staff

Howard is a Hong Kong Physiotherapists Association (HKPA) Titled Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist. He joined the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) in 2020. His teaching specialises in sports physiotherapy as he serves as the Clinical Coordinator for the MSc Sports Physiotherapy programme and the PolyU SPEED Professional Certificate in Advanced Practice in Sports Physiotherapy course. He is also the STAR Programme Coordinator which provides physiotherapy support for PolyU varsity sports teams. He is currently pursuing his PhD focusing on sports injury prevention. His clinical expertise primarily centres on sports injury management and rehabilitation for athletes across all levels.

Howard’s practice also extends to high-performance team environments. He is currently the Physiotherapist for the Handball Association of Hong Kong, China. He was appointed as the Team Physio for the Hong Kong Men’s Handball during the team’s historic achievement at the 15th National Games in 2025. Previously, he worked with the Chinese National Women’s Judo Team in preparation for the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou 2023, when the team achieved 1 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals. Before joining PolyU, Howard served as the Team Physio for Cricket Hong Kong, China, competing in Asia Cups and World Cup Qualifiers. His earlier professional work included extensive experience in basketball, where he worked in Hong Kong’s Division A1 League with numerous teams. He was the Team Physio for Hong Kong Eastern Basketball when they were crowned as the 2017 ASEAN Basketball League Champions. In addition, he has contributed as Tournament Physio for professional competitions including those organised by the International Tennis Federation and the Asian Tour in golf.

Howard brings a strong blend of clinical excellence, performance-focused rehabilitation, and evidence-based practice to his teaching at PolyU. Through his work with athletes and high-performance sports, he continues to translate real-world sports rehabilitation practice into meaningful learning for future sports physiotherapists. He is committed to advancing sports injury prevention and supporting athletes in achieving safe, sustainable performance outcomes.
