余頌華博士畢業於中國廣州暨南大學醫學院臨床醫學專業，取得內外全科醫學士學位。隨後，余博士在香港中文大學醫學院兒科學系攻讀研究生課程，分別取得臨床醫學哲學碩士、博士學位。她的碩士論文是關於輸血（红细胞）對早產兒左心輸出量和耗氧量的影響，而其博士論文是關於力量訓練和飲食介入對管理兒童肥胖症的效果。她曾參對本港兒童腰圍數據和心血管關係的分析研究、 6分鐘步行測試和心肺功能測試等研究項目。目前，余博士主要的研究課題包括兒童肥胖症、兒童心肺評估、體力活動與健康、以及為自閉症譜系障礙兒童制定運動方案。
