PolyU has taken a significant step forward in advancing internationalisation by strengthening its university partnerships in Canada. Led by PolyU President Professor Jin-Guang Teng, a University delegation completed a fruitful and productive visit to Canada in early October 2026. During the visit, PolyU engaged with seven leading Canadian universities and concluded five new institutional agreements covering research collaboration, student mobility and academic exchange. The trip reinforced PolyU’s global network and created new opportunities for international research collaboration, talent development and student exchange.

The delegation visited seven leading Canadian universities across Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, expanding collaboration across a wide range of areas.

A major highlight of the trip was the signing of an institutional-level Strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with McGill University. Signed by President Teng and Professor Deep Saini, President and Vice-Chancellor of McGill, this flagship agreement elevated institutional ties to a strategic level, opening new opportunities for multi-disciplinary research collaboration, joint academic initiatives, and greater mobility for students and researchers.

Another key milestone was achieved at McMaster University, where President Teng and Dr Susan Tighe, President and Vice-Chancellor of McMaster, signed a university-wide student exchange agreement. Student exchange agreements were also concluded with Western University, further expanding opportunities for student and academic mobility.

PolyU also established new institutional partnerships with The University of British Columbia (UBC) and Université de Montréal (UdeM), covering research collaboration, academic exchange and student mobility. These agreements broaden collaboration opportunities with leading Canadian institutions and expand opportunities for staff and students alike.

The delegation also held discussions with senior representatives of the University of Toronto and Simon Fraser University (SFU), as well as dedicated engagement sessions with PhD students and postdoctoral researchers across several host institutions to promote educational opportunities in Hong Kong.

Through these new partnerships, PolyU is expanding opportunities for research collaboration, student mobility and academic exchange, while strengthening its international presence and contributing to Hong Kong’s role as a global education hub.
