PolyU has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shenwan Hongyuan and Joincap Capital to support the HKSAR Government’s “Research, Academic and Industry Sectors One-plus Scheme” (RAISe+ Scheme), which aims to promote commercialisation of research and startup development in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

A delegation led by Dr Chen Jie, Standing Member of the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee, Secretary of the CPC Huangpu District Committee and the CPC Guangzhou Development District Working Committee, Director of the Guangzhou Development District Administrative Committee, visited PolyU to discuss establishing an innovation platform and nurturing talents. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Dr Chen, and senior leadership from PolyU, Shenwan Hongyuan and Joincap Capital.

Dr Miranda Lou, Executive Vice President of PolyU, said the collaboration leverages strengths in research, funding, networks and project information to accelerate GBA commercialisation and startup incubation.

Mr Liang Jun, Chief Executive Officer, Shenwan Hongyuan (H.K.) Limited, said the company is committed to creating value through investment, banking and management services to support Hong Kong innovation.

Mr Boran Xue, Chairman, Joincap Capital Group said the partnership aims to accelerate PolyU’s advanced research commercialisation, particularly in Guangzhou, to catalyse high-quality GBA development.

Under the MoU, Shenwan Hongyuan and Joincap Capital will set aside $150 million to invest in eligible PolyU projects that also receive RAISe+ government matching funds.

This first-of-its-kind collaboration between PolyU and the investment firms seeks to facilitate landing PolyU technologies in the GBA through various support mechanisms. It also aims to stimulate industry-academia-research partnerships, downstream development and elevate innovation in Hong Kong and across the Greater Bay Area.
