We provide quality university education to outstanding sportspersons
PolyU has always supported the nurturing of outstanding athletes in Hong Kong. We provide an environment in which our student athletes can excel in academics, sports, as well as whole-person development. Since we launched the Outstanding Sportsmen Recommendation Scheme in 1998, over 1,000 athletes of the Hong Kong National Team or Junior Squad have been admitted to PolyU to pursue their sporting careers while still receiving a quality university education.
To recognise the distinguished sporting achievements of young athletes, a maximum of 50 entry scholarships are offered every year. In the 2020/21 academic year, a total of 70 student athletes joined PolyU through the Scheme.
Recently, Professor Ben Young, Vice President (Student and International Affairs), together with four outstanding student athletes, namely Kan Yik Fai, Ip Chun Hong, Lau Fong Ying and Sophia Wu, met the media to highlight how the Scheme helps student athletes excel in both sports and academic achievements.
