Biography
Bingang Xu is a full Professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research focuses on advanced functional textiles including smart and electronic textiles. Prof. Xu's research work has internationally been renowned for wearable energy harvesting and storage technologies, with original and pioneering contributions to the development of high-performance energy harvesting and energy storage textiles, smart wearable sensing, as well as self-powered wearable devices. He is affiliated with different units of the University, including Research Institute for Intelligent Wearable Systems, Research Institute for Smart Energy, Research Centre for Resources Engineering towards Carbon Neutrality, Research Centre of Textiles for Future Fashion, and School of Fashion and Textiles. Prof. Xu has published over 300 books, chapters, journal and conference papers, and also holds 16 granted patents. He leads his team in doing frontier research and has published over 160 journal articles in top SCI journals with impact factor over 10.0, such as Nat. Commun., Matter, Adv. Mater., Adv. Energy Mater., Adv. Funct. Mater., Adv. Fiber Mater., Energy Environ. Sci., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Nano-Micro Lett., Mater. Today. He has been ranked among the World’s Top 2% Most-cited Scientists in the report of Stanford University. As the Principal Investigator, Prof. Xu has led his team to win two Gold Awards with the Congratulations of Jury in International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva in Switzerland.
Prof. Xu is an elected fellow of the Textile Institute (CText FTI) and a member of American Society of Mechanical Engineer, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Fiber Society. He currently serves as an Editor for npj Self-powered Electronics (Nature Portfolio journal, Springer Nature), Materials for Renewable and Sustainable Energy (Springer Nature), Fibers and Polymers (Springer Nature), and International Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks (Wiley). In addition, Prof. Xu serves on the editorial boards of several other high-impact SCI journals, including Advanced Fiber Materials (Springer Nature) and Sustainable Materials and Technologies (Elsevier). He also reviews for more than 80 international journals, including 30 world-leading journals with an impact factor above 10.0, as well as Nature series journals such as Nature Communications, Nature Chemical Engineering, Nature Sensors. Prof. Xu has served as General Chair and Program Chair for over 10 international conferences, and has also acted as a TPC member for over 30 international conferences. He has also served as external assessor and examiner for overseas competitive research grant proposal and PhD thesis.
