The 4th Scientific Meeting of the Asia Pacific Alliance for Obesity and Sarcopenia Metabolism (APAOSM), held concurrently with the 2nd Scientific Meeting of the APAOSM Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Committee, was successfully hosted at PolyU on 11 July 2026.  Co-organised by the Research Institute for Smart Ageing (RISA), the Hong Kong Nutrition Association and the Shenzhen Hospital of Southern Medical University, the symposium brought together leading experts, clinicians, and researchers from across Southeast Asia and Oceania.  The hybrid event, which attracted over 50,000 online and in-person participants, fostered rich academic exchange on cutting-edge topics in obesity, metabolic medicine, clinical nutrition, bariatric surgery, and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare.

Highlighting RISA’s core research in innovative gerontechnology, Prof. ZHENG Yongping, Director of RISA, delivered a featured presentation during the morning session on the clinical application of palm-sized ultrasound for the precise assessment of sarcopenia and fatty liver disease.  The symposium also featured a diverse range of academic sessions, oral presentations, and e-poster showcases covering advanced topics such as the gut microbiota, targeted nutritional interventions, and the latest international guidelines.  Through co-organising this high-impact international event, RISA continues to strengthen its regional and global collaborations, driving multidisciplinary research, technological innovation, and practical solutions to enhance the metabolic health and well-being of the ageing population.
