Topic Overview:

In this lecture, RILS scholars will provide an in-depth examination of how advanced technologies are revolutionizing environmental monitoring and land use analysis. The session will cover the importance of tracking land use/land cover changes using satellite and aerial imagery and introduce remote sensing and GIS as key tools for large-scale Earth observation and spatial analysis. The lecture will also showcase the application of GeoAI in enabling actionable insights for sustainable planning and policymaking. In addition, the lecture will introduce two types of land information platforms developed by RILS, highlighting their capabilities in integrating and analyzing various types of land and spatial data to support smart city applications, such as urban planning, environmental monitoring, and infrastructure management.

Key Topics:

  1. Environmental monitoring and land use analysis
    • Harnessing remote sensing and GIS for large-scale, real-time monitoring of environmental and land use change
    • GeoAI integration with remote sensing data for land use analysis, sustainable planning and informed policy decisions
  2. Land-information Platforms
    • A dual-platform strategy, offering an ArcGIS-based platform for GIS experts and a web-based platform for the public, providing easy access and interactive tools
    • Practical applications of the platform, showcasing how spatial data and analytics drive smart city solutions
  3.

Teaching Format:

The lecture features interactive presentations, live demos, and case studies on remote sensing, GIS, and GeoAI in environmental monitoring. Live demos of two land-info platforms will showcase interactive walkthroughs and data visualizations, with Q&A sessions, designed for both technical and non-technical participants to engage and understand.
