Microsoft recently released M365 Copilot Chat, M365 Copilot, and Copilot Studio to higher education institutions through the Education program offer. If you plan to leverage these tools, please be aware of the differences in functionalities and the licensing / usage fees involved.
M365 Copilot Chat
M365 Copilot Chat replaces Copilot with Bing and supports text-to-text messaging, along with the ability to upload files or images for text conversion.
All PolyU staff and students can leverage M365 Copilot Chat via the PolyU Gen AI app, or by accessing it directly through the browser at https://www.microsoft365.com/chat. Users can also install the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on their personal mobile phones. M365 Copilot Chat utilizes the Microsoft Prometheus model, which is built upon OpenAI's GPT-4o.
M365 Copilot
Microsoft 365 Copilot is relevant to those who like to have personal AI Assistant to manage own email messages on O365 and documents saved on O365 OneDrive. M365 Copilot integrates with Microsoft 365 applications (MS Team, Outlook, MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint) to ease document and PowerPoint creation, content summarization, Excel data analysis and summarize email threats. M365 Copilot is not included in the standard Education license subscription and requires the purchase of an additional M365 Copilot subscription license for use.
Copilot Studio
Copilot Studio is for colleagues who want to build their own AI chatbots using data from the O365 Graph or the Internet. The use of Copilot Studio requires the purchase of a Copilot Studio subscription license. If the AI chatbot will be used by others, the creator of the AI chatbot needs to purchase conversation minutes to allow others to make conversation with the AI chatbot created.
