Prof. Jiang S.X. Kinor (姜綬祥) earned his BA from The Central Academy of Arts and Design, China. He obtained his MA in Fashion and Textile Design and his PhD both from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He worked as a textile designer for several years before he started teaching at The Central Academy of Arts and Design, and Tsinghua University in 1992. Prof. Jiang’s teaching areas include design methodology, textile design and fashion creation. Prof. Jiang teaches a broad range of subjects such as innovative for textile design approach, advanced textile and fashion design, and international fashion and textiles design. His teaching duties include different levels of class teaching and supervising BA, MA, MPhil and PhD students. Prof. Jiang’s research deals with innovative textile effects using physical and chemical treatment technologies. He is internationally renowned for his development of the metallised textiles. By securing more than HK$18 million research funding and obtaining support from HK government and industry, he developed metallising technology for functional and decorative textiles. Prof. Jiang has published extensively, having written more than 100 academic papers and books. His works have been part of the permanent collections of museums including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco and China National Silk Museum.

Now, Prof. Jiang is an Advisor of the Fashion Committee in China National Silk Museum, Vice Chair of International Fashion Art Network, Member of the Standing Committee of China Fiber Art Committee, Member of China Arts & Crafts Association, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Visiting Research Fellow of Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University, and Honorary Professor of several universities in China. Prof. Jiang devotes to textile and fashion design curations as well. More than 20 international textile and fashion design exhibitions have been organized or curated in different museums and galleries. Currently, Prof. Jiang holds Visiting Curator of textile design and fashion art in China National Silk Museum and Shenzhen Modern Design Museum.

  • Design focus: art aspects of textile and fashion, fashion and textile exhibition curation
  • Research perspective: development and analysis of innovative ends of textile and clothing combining aesthetics and functional properties
  • Technology: thin film, coating technologies, and exploration of CAD
  • History and culture: exploration of traditional materials and processes, utilization of textile and fashion to enhance perception of contemporary culture
