The PolyU Design Hatch Awards, organised by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design, is a competition that nurtures the creative potential, critical thinking, and design-led innovation of secondary school students with diverse interests and aptitudes. More than a design competition, the 2026 edition provides a platform for participants to create innovative designs inspired by the theme: Designing STEM/STEAM Learning Tools, and get a head start on the idea of ‘design’.  

Participants submitted design concepts challenged to reimagine modern educational resources by blending science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics into user-centered tools. Shortlisted students advanced to an intensive one-day Hatch Programme workshop, where they refined their design proposals and developed functional prototypes under expert guidance before pitching to a live judging panel. Whether through AI-powered sign language translators, smart terrariums, interactive dynamic whiteboards, bionic reconnaissance robots, or tactile storytelling kits, the winning projects demonstrate creative technical ingenuity that fosters engaging and inclusive learning environments.

After months of dedication, we present exceptional Hatch Awards projects, illuminating the future of STEM and STEAM education through the innovative lens of secondary school students.

This exhibition is open to the public and free of charge. No registration is required.
