BRE Students Awarded CIOB Certificate of Excellence

Congratulations to Ms Phyllis LOW Suet Ee, from the MSc in Project Management programme and Mr MUHAMMAD Junaid Khalid, a BSc (Hons) in Building Engineering and Management student on receiving the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Certificate of Excellence! Ms Caroline GUMBLE, CIOB Chief Executive, presented this prestigious accolade to the two students in October 2024, in recognition of their outstanding achievement in attaining the highest marks on their respective programmes. Phyllis expressed her feelings, saying, “I am honoured to receive the Certificate of Excellence from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) for my achievements on my master’s programme at PolyU. This award reflects the supportive academic environment fostered by my professors. My experience at PolyU has been transformative, with a rigorous curriculum and hands-on projects that have encouraged critical and creative thinking. Engaging with industry leaders and CIOB representatives has offered invaluable insights into the construction and building management sectors. I am grateful for the guidance of my mentors and the collaboration with classmates. I look forward to contributing to the field of construction internationally.” Junaid Khalid said, “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to CIOB for this incredible recognition and for their visit to Hong Kong. I am also grateful to my department for nominating me for this award and providing unwavering support throughout my academic journey. The mentorship and guidance of BRE staff have been instrumental to my development and success, providing invaluable insights into the world of digital construction and beyond. I am excited to continue contributing to the field and look forward to many more opportunities to learn and grow through CIOB and as an alumnus of PolyU.” This recognition is a tremendous honour, and we are deeply grateful to CIOB for acknowledging our students’ hard work.

BRE Students Received SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation x PolyU Building Homes with Heart Scholarship

Our students, Miss CHO Phoena, Miss CHEN Yingying and Miss LEUNG Cheuk Yan from the BSc (Hons) in Surveying programme, were honoured at the Building Homes with Heart Scholarship Programme in August. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation and PolyU. Launched in 2022, the Scholarship Programme is tailored to offer assistance to extraordinary PolyU students who encounter financial difficulties as they pursue their degrees in construction, real estate or engineering-related disciplines. At the award ceremony, Mr Adam KWOK, Executive Director of Sun Hung Kai Properties, presented the Scholarships to the awardees, with each student receiving up to HK$40,000. Prof. Ben YOUNG, Vice President (Student and Global Affairs) of PolyU, and Mr Robert CHAN, Executive Director of SHKP and a PolyU graduate, shared their visions for academia-industry collaboration and the nurturing of future talents for the industry. The recipients expressed their sincere gratitude for the Scholarships, particularly in terms of alleviating their financial burdens and providing significant encouragement.

Miss Connie WONG Awarded HSBC Hong Kong Scholarship 2023/24

We are delighted to announce that Miss Connie WONG Sze Lam a graduate of the BSc (Hons) in Property Management programme, has been awarded a prestigious HSBC Hong Kong Scholarship. This Scholarship recognises students who excel in academic performance, and demonstrate active involvement in extra-curricular activities and community service. The selection process considers key factors such as English proficiency, leadership qualities, commitment to service and other personal attributes, including the overall potential of the nominees. Connie’s achievement is a testament to her dedication and outstanding qualities in these areas. Connie shared, “Like a beacon of light on my academic journey, the Scholarship has not only illuminated my path but also filled my heart with boundless appreciation for all the support I have received, especially from BRE which has provided me with the perfect platform to strive for the best. With this award as the wind beneath my wings, I envision a future filled with innovation and purpose. Moving forward, I will harness the opportunities it offers to explore new horizons, dive deeper into my studies, and cultivate a spirit of curiosity and excellence. Overall speaking, the HSBC Hong Kong Scholarship has been a shimmering thread, weaving together my gratefulness, ambition and commitment.”

BRE Students Won in CIC BIM Competition 2024>>

The same Team, Mr CHAN Nok To, Mr LEE Ho Ming, Mr WONG Man Nok and Mr YAU Shun Kit, also triumphed as Champions in the CIC BIM Competition 2024. They designed a three-storey CIC Innovation Academy for higher education students, utilising BIM software and integrating sustainable and passive design strategies. Through two rounds of competition, they visualized their design with architectural, structural and MEP models, delivering compelling proposals in an on-site presentation to a multidisciplinary panel of judges. The Team thanked Mr Raymond LOK of the PolyU Industrial Centre for his mentorship in the CIC BIM Competition 2024 and BRE for the support in guiding them to success.

BRE Students Won in CIOB Global Student Challenge 2024

We are proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students, Mr CHAN Nok To, Mr LEE Ho Ming, Mr WONG Man Nok and Mr YAU Shun Kit from the BSc (Hons) in Building Engineering and Management programme, in two competitions this year. The team earned Third Place in the CIOB Global Student Challenge 2024 with their ingenious design of a disaster relief shelter. Designed to be airlifted and assembled swiftly by unskilled labour, the shelter highlights the practical and impactful solutions our students are capable of developing. The team worked intensively, including on the design of the shelter using BIM, creating a comprehensive portfolio with detailed programmes and costing data, and presenting their ideas to an international panel of judges. The Team said, “The achievement reflects not only our dedication and hard work but also the invaluable mentorship provided by Dr TENG Yue, Assistant Professor of BRE for the CIOB Global Student Challenge.”

Miss Karen YEUNG Received Innovation and Technology Scholarship 2024

Miss Karen YEUNG Tsz Wan, a year-four student of our BSc (Hons) in Surveying programme received an Innovation and Technology (InnoTech) Scholarship from The Hon Michael WONG, GBS, JP, the Deputy Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government at the Award Presentation Ceremony at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in June this year. Jointly organized by the Innovation and Technology Commission, HSBC and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups in 2011, the Scholarship aims to nurture future leaders to contribute to the InnoTech Industry and to recognise the creativity and passion they have displayed in this respect. Karen expressed her gratitude and excitement upon receiving the prestigious InnoTech Scholarship 2024, stating, “I am thrilled about the opportunities it brings. My passion lies in revolutionising the construction industry by seamlessly integrating AI and robotics.” She added, ‘The generous financial support will allow me to deepen my understanding in this field and seize exciting opportunities. I am currently participating in the exchange programme at the Technical University of Munich, where I am immersing myself in advanced engineering and construction technologies. Next summer, I will be enrolling in the Artificial Intelligence fundamentals course at Zhejiang University, which will further help lay a strong foundation for my academic journey. ”

Heartfelt Congratulations to Miss Connie WONG Sze Lam, our Property Management Student, on being selected as ‘The Most Outstanding PolyU Student’ for her remarkable accomplishments and contributions! Connie was honoured with the award from Prof. TENG Jin Guang, the President of PolyU, at the Presentation Ceremony on 26 March 2024. This special occasion was awash with resounding applause and heartfeltcongratulations. We couldn’t be prouder of Connie. The Outstanding Student Awards of PolyU aims to recognize full-time final-year students for their excellence in both academic and non-academic endeavors. HKIS QSD Scholarships for Surveying Students

HKIS QSD Scholarships for Surveying Students It’s always amazing to hear our students’ inspiring stories.  Five BRE students were awarded the Quantity Surveying Division (QSD) Scholarships of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS) for their excellence in academic performance.  In the Presentation Ceremony in July 2023, following the uplifting speeches by Sr Paul Wong, HKIS President and Sr Sunny Choi, HKIS QSD Chairperson, the certificates together with cheques were presented to every awardee amid rapturous applause.  The recognition gave the students lots of encouragement for their continued success in future. Innovation and Technology Scholarship 2023 Celebrating Our Property Management Student’s Creativity and Passion

  We shine because of our students’ achievements. Join us in congratulating Miss Connie WONG Sze Lam, a year-four student of our BSc (Hons) in Property Management Programme who received the Innovation and Technology Scholarship from Mr John LEE, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the Award Presentation Ceremony. Jointly organized by the Innovation and Technology Commission, HSBC and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, the Innovation and Technology Scholarship aims to nurture outstanding students to contribute to the InnoTech Industry and recognize their creativity and passion towards this aspect. Connie is very honoured to have been selected as one of the recipients of the Innovation and Technology Scholarship. She wishes to thank the organisers for organising this meaningful scholarship to encourage students to contribute to the InnoTech Industry. Moreover, she would like to express her heartfelt gratitude to BRE, especially to Prof. Eddie HUI and Ms Hebe HOW, for the invaluable support along the way. Receiving this scholarship has not only helped affirm her passion for engaging in the InnoTech sector, but also motivated her to strive for further improvement and excellence. Connie says, “It feels great to have received this scholarship, but in the scheme of things, it is of little importance, when compared to the mission it places upon its recipients – to promote the development of Innovation and Technology in Hong Kong. I am looking forward to collaborating with other passionate youths and leaders to build a better Hong Kong with our innovative ideas!” Connie, keep up the good work!
