Executive Master in Real Estate Finance Mini-Lecture & Networking Forum Private Equity Real Estate – Industry and Investment Process Review

Private equity real estate funds have been investing in Greater China and Asia Pacific for more than two decades, and are playing an important role in the development of the real estate industry alongside the public equities. As a veteran fund manager in the real estate investment industry, Dr. Lam will share his experience and views on the history and current landscape of the real estate fund industry in Asia, the common fallacies in real estate investments, and some important factors a real estate investment professional should pay special attention to during the investment process.   Guest of Honor: Dr Charles Lam Managing Director, Real Estate Baring Private Equity Asia Adjunct Professor, School of Accounting and Finance, PolyU   Dr. Charles Lam joined Baring Private Equity Asia in 2011 as Managing Director, Real Estate with primary focus in Greater China real estate investments. He was previously the Managing Director, Greater China of Pramerica Real Estate Investors (PREI) where he opened its Hong Kong office in 2007. During his 4-year stay with PREI, Dr. Lam has completed over US$1 billion of real estate investments, refinancing, and disposition projects in China and in Hong Kong. Dr. Lam was formerly the Director, Head of Real Estate Investment of China Ping An Trust, where he spearheaded the real estate investment business for the company. At Ping An, he was responsible for investing more than US$900 million in hard assets and development projects across China. His prior employment included AIG Global Real Estate and Sun Hung Kai Properties Group. Dr Andy Wong - Guest-of-Honour at Hong Kong Youth Summit 2015

Dr Andy Wong,our Associate Professor,was invited to be the Guest-of-Honour at Hong  Kong  Youth  Summit  2015 of  Hong Kong Outstanding  Students’  Association in mid March. In the campaign, Dr Wong shared his valuable insights into four hottest subjects ranging from : 1) quota and points system in the allocation of public rental housing,   2) the Government’s market-cooling attempts by additional stamp duties,    3) the regulation of subdivided flats to 4) the effectiveness of Hong Kong subsidized housing.   A round of thunderous applause  could  tell  that Dr  Wong’s  comprehensive sharing and  interactive discussion brought the participating secondary  school students a fruitful and enjoyable afternoon.   Hong Kong Youth Summit 2015 (HKYS 2015) was held from 1March to 4 April 2015, providing a platform where foresighted teenagers convened to debate and confront issues in a topical area of social concern in Hong Kong to foster mutually  agreed strategies to tackle their associated challenges.

Drafted Report of the CPD Forum

A  CPD  forum  organized  by  CIOB  was  conducted  on  13  February  2015  to  present  the  topic  on lessons  learnt  from  the  case  studies  of  revitalizing  industrial  buildings.  The  event  is  generated from  the  PPR  project  “Evaluating  the  Economic,  Social  and  Cultural  Impacts  of  Revitalizing Industrial  Buildings  in  Hong  Kong”.  Dr.  Irene  Wong  was  the  speaker  presenting  the  topic“Revitalization  of  Industrial  Buildings  in  Hong  Kong:  Lessons  Learnt  from  Case  Studies”.  The presentation summarized the findings from the research and used five cases including wholesalec on versions  into  loft  apartment,  elderly  housing,  an  art  centre  and  an  outlet  cum  hotel development  as  well  as  a  redevelopment  project  into  a  residential  building  to  validate  the findings. The second part of the forum was open to discussion. The topic was to investigate the potential  of  converting  industrial  buildings  into loft  apartment  for  sale.  The  floor  plan  was suggested to be divided into small units of open plan. The target buyers were the young middle class.  The  event  was  very  successful  and  well  received  by  the  members,  which  was  reflected during the Q & A session.
