BRE Academic Staff, Dr Daniel Chan Winning HKIPM Project Management Achievement Awards (2016)

In the Project Management Achievement Awards (2016) organized by the Hong Kong Institute of Project Management  (HKIPM), one academic staff of the Department of Building and Real Estate (BRE) of PolyU was rewarded for his research project announced on 13 February 2017. Under the Research category, Dr Daniel W.M. Chan (陳煒明博士), Associate Head (Teaching and Learning) and Associate Professor of BRE, was one of the two winning teams from local universities with his empirical study of exploringthe application of Pay for Safety Scheme (PFSS) in the construction industry of Hong Kong. He received an award certificate from a member of the Judging Panel at the HKIPM Annual Dinner 2017 held on Thursday, 27 April 2017 at the Royal Plaza Hotel, Mongkok, Kowloon.   Project Title: Exploring the Application of Pay for Safety Scheme (PFSS) in Hong Kong Construction Industry Research Team Leader: Cr Dr Daniel Chan Research Team Members: Ir Prof Albert Chan and Ms Tracy Choi   The HKIPM Project Management Achievement Awards (HKIPM Awards) is held each year in Hong Kong, and the awards are aimed to provide an opportunity for organizations and project managers in different disciplines showing their project success amongst their counterparts. The winners under each category of HKIPM Awards will be endorsed by HKIPM to submit to the international judging panel of the Asia Pacific Federation of Project ManagementAchievement Awards (apfpm Awards). The awards were based on the quality of application submission and the practical outcomes of research projects conducted by academics in Hong Kong, the contents of which should be focused on the pertinent aspects of project management.

‘International Summit on Belt and Road Innovation and Entrepreneurship cum Dinner Gathering’ in Hangzhou

In celebration of PolyU’s 80th Anniversary,Zhejiang University’s 120thAnniversaryand the 20thAnniversary of Zhejiang University-PolyU Joint Centre,Ir Prof.Xu You Lin,Dean of the Faculty of Construction and Environment (FCE)and Prof. Albert Chan, Head of the Department of Building and Real Estate (BRE), together with a programme team  of BRE’s MSc in International Real Estate- Zhejiang(IRE),were invited  to  the  ‘International  Summit  on  Belt  and  Road  Innovation  and Entrepreneurship cum Dinner Gathering’ in Hangzhou on 22 April 2017   In the Summit, the guests-of-honour included Prof. LiLu,Director-General of the Department  of  Educational,  Scientific  and  Technological  Affairs at the Liaison Office of The Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR,Mr. Guo Huawei, Chief, Department in the Education, Zhejiang Province of China and Mr. Eddie Ng Hak Kim, SBS, JP,Secretary for Education of the HKSAR Government.   In addition,Prof. Sir James Mirr lees,Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences for 1996, shared his wisdom and insight into the theme of ‘Belt and Road Initiative–Innovative Growth’ in  his  keynote  speech.Also, there were two plenary sessions about ‘Business Opportunities and Entrepreneurship’ and ‘Education and Innovation’, respectively.   Afterwards, a dinner gathering was held for guests, alumni,students and staff to celebrate this important milestone and catch up with one another.Prof. Timothy W.Tong, JP and Prof. Wu Zhao hui, the respective Presidents of PolyU and Zhejiang University,gave a rapturous welcome to every participant in the dinner where the official   establishment   of Zhejiang   University-PolyU   Joint   Centre’s  Alumni Association was  announced.Also,  Dr  Stanley  Yeung, Programme  Leader  of  IRE shared,‘It was very exciting forusto  catch  upand  network with  a  lot  of  IRE graduates on this wonderful occasion.’   This one-day well-packed programme was a roaring success, bringing participants diverse perspectives on the  subject  ‘Belt and Road Innovation and Entrepreneurship’ and a joyful celebration in the hope off urther flourishing development of PolyU and Zhejiang University.
