Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biomedical Engineering

My studies in the BME program at SST have enriched my knowledge and strengthened my interest in the sports-related industry. The lecture focusing on sports anatomy gives me a deeper understanding of basic mechanism and scientific analysis on musculoskeletal system.

 

In addition, the Department of Biomedical Engineering at PolyU offers a wide range of exchange opportunities. My summer exchange in Cambridge broadened my horizons and exposed me to cutting-edge knowledge, inspiring me to explore the integration of nanotechnology with biomedical engineering.

My journey in PolyU BME as an international student was filled with opportunities and new connections.

 

I engaged with professionals from the industry and outstanding professors who helped me gain my knowledge of the working principles and management of medical equipment. Throughout my studies, I had the chance to work on design projects with my classmates focused on smart seating, and to lead a two-year individual research project in tissue engineering. These experiences equipped me with a well-rounded set of skills for my future career path, whether in Hong Kong or abroad.

I deeply value my experience in Polyu BME. The program offers a comprehensive curriculum, projects, and internships that enrich university life.

 

Additionally, the department provides resources for those who proactively explore further in research, competitions, and extracurricular activities.

As a 2+2 dual-degree student from Malaysia studying Prosthetics and Orthotics at PolyU, I’ve found the learning experience here to be incredibly valuable and inspiring. The program has given me deeper insights into how technology can enhance mobility and improve people’s quality of life — one of the main reasons I chose this field in the first place.

 

Beyond academics, the department also offers amazing opportunities to gain real-world experience in this profession. One highlight was a service trip to Mainland China, where we helped people in need and saw firsthand how orthotic and prosthetic interventions can make a tangible difference in their lives.

 

I’ve really enjoyed meeting people from diverse backgrounds, exchanging ideas, and getting involved in hands-on projects. Studying in Hong Kong has been an exciting and eye-opening journey, and I’m looking forward to continuing to grow in this field and contributing meaningfully to the community in the future.

My experience with P&O has been incredibly valuable. It has provided me with the opportunity to not only acquire knowledge from classes but also gain a deeper understanding of the industry through firsthand experiences during clinical attachment.

 

The service trip to Guangzhou was also particularly enriching, as it allowed me to apply what I’ve learned and gain insights into P&O operations in other parts of the world.

My programme within the Department of Biomedical Engineering at PolyU has paved a path for me into the healthcare service industry. The programme’s focus on Prosthetics and Orthotics is unique in Hong Kong. Using knowledge of biomechanics,material science and pathologies, this programme nurtures students to become professional clinicians and serve the public by providing high-quality healthcare services. This summer, I had a two-month clinical attachment in the Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics at Tuen Mun Hospital, which allowed me to acquire more bedside clinical experience and learn about the real-life workings of the industry and the local healthcare system. This experience has shaped my perspective of the local healthcare servicing field and has better equipped me for my future career.

PolyU emphasises the all-round development of its students. In addition to striving for academic excellence, I have been able to explore and stretch my potential at PolyU by being selected for the university’s men’s volleyball team. PolyU has a well-established sports department, providing high-quality training and support to aid student athletes to perform well in both local inter-collegiate and international competitions. Last year, the men’s volleyball team received the gold medal in the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong competition, and PolyU won the overall inter-collegiate championship.
