UBSN's First MRI Lab awarded PolyU OSH Excellence Silver Award 2023

The PolyU Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Excellence Award is intended to recognize exceptional workers who have made significant contributions to the university's work safety culture. The award's typical focus is on the nominee's accomplishments and those provided in their role as University staff members. Safety achievements outside of the nominee's usual job scope may also be taken into consideration. Director of UBSN, Prof. Marco Pang, receives International Service Award in Research at World Physiotherapy Congress 2023

Congratulations to Prof. Marco Pang, on receiving the International Service Award in Research at the recent World Physiotherapy Congress 2023 held in Dubai.  Prof. Pang is our director here at University Research Facility in Behavioral and Systems Neuroscience (UBSN) and a Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences. Prof. Pang is the first physiotherapist from Hong Kong to ever receive this highly distinguished recognition. The World Physiotherapy awards are presented every four years. The World Physiotherapy International Service Award in Research in particular honours individuals who have demonstrated leadership, made distinguished contributions and/or have had high impact through phystiotherapy research locally and/or internationally. Professor Pang was one of four outstanding physiotherapists from all around the world to receive the award this year. The president of World Physiotherapy, Prof. Emma Stokes, presented his award and praised his outstanding research accomplishments and commitment to the advancement of physiotherapy research field. MRI Lab Demonstration and Capstone Projects Policy

We are pleased to inform you that UBSN MRI Lab has started to support Lab Demonstration and Capstone Projects. Below are the detailed policies. Lab Demonstration Policies UBSN supports the MRI lab demonstration for the courses in the undergraduate programmes. The lab demonstration is free of charge. The lab demonstration applications (Template) should be submitted at least 8 weeks in advance. No volunteers will be scanned during the MRI lab demonstration. Capstone Projects Policies UBSN supports a limited number of MRI-related Capstone Projects. UBSN supports a maximum of 3 MRI-related Capstone Projects per year with a maximum of 1 project per department. If more than one capstone project is submitted from the same department, it will be on a first-come-first-served basis. The maximum acquisition time of each Capstone Project is 10 hours. The scanning fee for Capstone Project is 1600 HKD/hr. The PI should have sufficient funding to complete the whole project. The Capstone Project approval procedure is consistent with other MRI research projects. The project submission deadline: o Department of Rehabilitation Sciences: 31st March o Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies: 31st October o Department of Health Technology and Informatics: 30th September

Press: PolyU develops tDCS treatment for relieving symptoms in ASD

PolyU research team helps enhancing social and cognitive functions of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder through transcranial Direct-Current Stimulation method   One of our UBSN members, Dr. Yvonne HAN from Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, has recently reported regarding her transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) study. Her research team randomly sampled 41 young people, aged from 14 to 21, with mild Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). They performed 10 times tDCS treatments at frontal lobe within two weeks. The results were found that the tDCS treatments, combining with cognitive training, may help facilitating the social communication skills and various cognitive functions of the young people with ASD. Dr. Han suggested that this enhancement may be due to the facilitation effect of tDCS on synaptic plasticity and neuronal network connection. Three UBSN Management Committee Professors Ranked Top 2% Most Cited Scientists

Stanford University has recently published an update to a database that represented top-cited scientists worldwide†. We are very excited to share the news with you that three of our UBSN management committee professors are ranked among the world's top 2% most-cited scientists. The Stanford research team retrieved Scopus publication data up to 2021 provided by Elsevier and standardised citation data using metrics such as h-index, co-authorship hm-index.
