With the acceleration of urbanisation and the continuous expansion of the urban population, the demand of urban residents for fresh and healthy food has shown an increasing trend. However, the traditional mode of agricultural production has gradually revealed its limitations, making it difficult to effectively meet this rising demand.

Shenzhen, as a rapidly developing megacity, is epitomised by its many urban villages. These villages have unique and complex spatial layout and social characteristics, which are of great significance to the development process of the city, and facing the serious challenges of decreasing environmental quality and increasing ecological pressure.

This study investigates the feasibility, benefits and impacts of edible landscapes in urban villages in Shenzhen through a combination of literature review, field research and questionnaire survey, and focuses on the construction of edible landscapes in urban villages. Its goal is to provide practical and innovative solutions to strengthen urban food supply systems and optimise unique urban ecosystems while promoting social circulation. This approach aims to improve the quality of the urban ecological environment, and achieve the dual goals of sustainable urban development and improved quality of life for residents through the rational use of urban village space resources.
