Biography

Prof. Sky Lo Tian Tian is an Assistant Professor at the School of Design, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research investigates spatial phygital interaction and the evolving relationship between virtual and physical environments through transdisciplinary methods integrating design, mixed-reality technologies, gamification, IoT, digital visualisation, and interactive systems.

His work examines how phygital technologies can enhance spatial interaction, knowledge transfer, collaborative design processes, and future hybrid experiences across multiple scales. At the environmental scale, his research explores topics such as phygital recycling, sustainability engagement, and immersive instruction. At the urban scale, he investigates phygital city systems and the integration of digital tools into public and civic environments. At the architectural scale, his work examines phygital-aided construction systems and digitally supported design-to-build processes. At the interior scale, he studies phygital workplaces and hybrid modes of collaboration. At the furniture- and object-scale, he explores XR-enabled, gamified participation and interactive urban furniture.

A key focus of Prof. Lo’s research is multilevel sharing and collaboration, ranging from basic data exchange to advanced forms of intelligent interaction. Through mixed reality, IoT, and virtual visualisation, his work advances Human–VR Interaction, opening up new possibilities for hybrid spatial experiences, participatory design, and innovation in the design process.

Since joining The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2022, Prof. Lo has organised workshops for DigitalFUTURES, CCD-ASC, and POLAR, and has published widely on transdisciplinary research, computational design, immersive technologies, and interactive design. He contributes to the leadership and academic development of international organisations including CAADRIA, eCAADe, WORLD16, and World CAAD PhD.

Prof. Lo welcomes prospective PhD candidates who are interested in advancing cross-disciplinary research on spatial phygital interaction, particularly across XR-enabled design, architecture, urban environments, landscape, IoT, ubiquitous computing, and emerging interactive systems.
