The "2025 Leadership Forum on Beyond Interdisciplinarity," part of the Business of Design Week (BODW), organized by the Hong Kong Design Centre and PolyU Design, successfully concluded on December 1. This year's forum brought together design experts from various disciplines to explore the impact of design across different fields.
The event featured distinguished guests from both academia and industry, including Professor Kun Pyo LEE and Professor Gerhard BRUYNS from PolyU Design, as well as Professor Don NORMAN, Professor Anne BODDINGTON, and Professor Miles PENNINGTON from the design academic community. Additionally, industry experts Dr Atsushi HASEGAWA, Dr Edmund LEE, Dr Ricky TSUI, and Dr Jidong YIM participated.
This Leadership Forum provided invaluable insights for design educators from around the world.

Prof. Don NORMAN, Distinguished Professor and Founder, Design Lab, Emeritus, University of California, shared his topic: Design in the 21st Century.

Dr Atsushi HASEGAWA, President of Concent, Inc., and Professor and Head of Institute of Innovation, Musashino Art University, shared his topic: Beyond Interdisciplinary: Designing the Conditions for Collective Inquiry.

Prof. Anne BODDINGTON, Professor of Design Innovation, Creative Intelligence Collective Ltd., shared her topic: Everything, Everywhere, All at Once: Breathlessness in Design, Design Education, and Design Research.

Dr Edmund LEE, General Manager & Head of Group ESG Initiatives, Gold Peak Technology Group, shared his topic: Orchestrating Creativity: Design Beyond Boundaries.

Prof. Miles PENNINGTON, Professor of Design Led Innovation, The University of Tokyo, shared his topic: Beyond Interdisciplinary.

Dr Ricky TSUI, East Asia Ventures Lead and Director of East Asia Arup University, shared his topic: “Total Design,” a distinctive and integrated approach that transcends conventional interdisciplinary collaboration.
