PolyU cross-disciplinary team’s diet tracking app shines at hackUST

The team of 3 students from PolyU Design and the Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies, Faculty of Business won the 1st Runner-up in hackathon@HKUST 2019, an overnight competition organised by HKUST and Jardine Restaurant Group with over 90 teams from 31 countries joined to develop an innovative software idea to improve restaurant operations on 13-14 April. 

The award was attained with their innovative mobile app ‘IDIET’ that tracks diet habit on eating out with a reward system and provides health and meal suggestions based on algorithm. 

The cross-disciplinary team was formed by Kwok Ho Hin Edwin (Final Year, Social Design-BA), Tsoi Ho Ching Shaun and Law Wing Sum Sebastiane (Year 3 and 2 respectively, International Shipping and Transport Logistics-BBA), among which Edwin was in charge of the interface design that easy-to-read information graphics were applied to ensure a user friendly operation. The other two business students came from the university sports team that diet management has been part of their routine thus became their source of inspiration. 

Having won the award and cash reward, the students were given the internship opportunities, business consultancy service, free design software and a pitch to the Group’s management for the chance of developing their proposal into a real project.
