Summary

In this talk, Prof. Otto von Busch will discuss the tensions between design, making, and civics, or how the planning of design clashes with the unruliness of civic life, and how craft and making practices may act as a possible bridge between them.

 

  • This seminar is open to all PolyU PhD students and SD staff.

Prof. Otto von Busch

Professor of Integrated Design, Parsons School of Design, The New School

 

 

Prof. Otto von Busch is a crafter and artist who is also Professor of Integrated Design at Parsons School of Design and holds a Ph.D. in design from the School of Design and Craft at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. In his teaching and research, he has explored how collective making practices can mobilize community capabilities through collaborative craft and social activism. He has a special interest in the Scandinavian tradition of educational craft, or Sloyd, and the crafting of community.
