Education Corner Creative Workshop 2025

Education Corner is a concurrent event of the Business of Design Week. This series of creative workshops aimed at increasing secondary school students' interest and participation in design and creativity. The teams from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design and Hong Kong Design Institute have teamed up to present the workshops. Follow the links below for the workshop details.

Workshop A: 'Fantasy Hong Kong - A Playful AI Spatial Narrative Design of What If...' Workshop

Dive into the fascinating world of Spatial Narrative Design! In this engaging workshop, participants will explore the concept of spatial storytelling while re-imagining the Hong Kong environment through film, mythology, literature, and more. Unleash your creativity as you generate a new "What if..." version of Hong Kong using AI, blending art and technology to envision exciting possibilities!

Workshop B: Zero-Waste Pigment Lab Workshop

工作坊B：廚餘煉金術工作坊

每節參加人數：最多15人 (只有實體課堂)

This workshop connects circular design with the traditional craft of watercolour. Participants will learn the scientific steps and tools required to transform everyday kitchen waste (such as carrot peels, onion skins, and coffee grounds) into natural pigment powders, thereby gaining a complete understanding of the secrets and principles of colour creation, from kitchen waste to finished powder. Following this, students will dive straight into the core of traditional paint-making—using professional tools to personally mix and thoroughly mull the "food waste pigments" with a natural binder. Each participant will craft a personalized zero-waste watercolour palette and learn basic watercolour techniques to immediately test their unique, handcrafted, and sustainable paints made from redefined waste.

 

 OBJECTIVES:

- Teach the complete process and principles of natural paint-making, enabling students to understand the origins of colour and the key steps and tools for natural pigment extraction
- Provide core hands-on experience in traditional paint-making, focusing on the crafts of pigment grinding (Mulling) and watercolour paint formulation
- Implement the principles of the circular economy by redefining kitchen waste as a valuable material for artistic creation
- Equip students with basic watercolour application skills for immediate testing and use of their self-made paints

本工作坊將循環設計與傳統水彩工藝連結。學員會了解如何將日常廚餘（如紅蘿蔔皮、洋蔥皮、咖啡渣等）轉化為天然色素粉末的科學步驟與製作工具，藉此完整學習從廚餘到色粉的顏色奧秘和原理。隨後，學員將直接進入傳統製彩的核心工藝——使用專業工具親手將這些「廚餘色粉」與天然結合劑混合並仔細研磨（Mulling）。每位學員將製作一個專屬的零廢棄水彩盤，並學習基礎水彩技巧，即場試用這套獨一無二、由廢物轉化而成的環保顏料。
 

活動目的:

- ⁠教授天然顏料製作的完整流程和原理，讓學員了解顏色來源及天然色素提取的關鍵步驟和工具
- 提供傳統顏料製作的核心實戰體驗，專注於色粉研磨（Mulling）及調製水彩顏料的工藝
- 實踐循環經濟概念，重新定義廚餘，視其為具價值的藝術創作物料
- 教授基本水彩應用技巧，讓學員能即時應用並測試親手製作的顏料

Workshop C: 'Game Design Experience: Start Your Game Creation on Paper' Workshop

工作坊C：「遊戲設計體驗：從紙上開始你的遊戲創作」工作坊

 

NO. OF STUDENTS PER WORKSHOP: 15 max. (face to face only)
每節參加人數：最多15人 (只有實體課堂)

Create your game box and experience game production! From brainstorming to paper prototyping, transform blank sheets into your game box and rule cards. Playtest on-site, make adjustments, and improve. Through the design thinking process, create game worlds and mechanics, taking away the experience of game creation.

 

OBJECTIVES:

- Experience the five steps of design thinking
- Understand and apply the basic elements of game design: goals, game mechanics (rules, core loop, win/lose conditions), and player experience

 

創作你的遊戲盒子，體驗遊戲製作！從腦力激盪到紙上原型製作，將白紙變成你的遊戲盒與規則卡，現場試玩、微調、再改良。透過設計思維的流程，創造遊戲世界和機制，帶走體驗遊戲創作。

 

活動目的:

- 體驗設計思維的五個步驟
- 理解並應用遊戲設計的基本元素：目標、遊戲機制（規則、核心迴圈、勝敗條件）、玩家體驗

1. Teachers of all participating secondary schools are recommended to remind their students to use all arts or carving tools and equipment carefully, for example, scissors and cutters, or any other sharp objects before the workshop starts.

參與的學校老師須於工作坊開始前提醒學生小心使用剪刀、美術刀等美工工具及其他銳利材料或物品。

Workshop 2 : Mine Space Planner 創建你想空間

 

A space design experience session will be conducted through interactive games. Students will need to use variously shaped puzzles within a designated area to simulate the thinking and design process of space designers when facing real-world constraints. Through hands-on operations, you will construct your personal spaces.

Workshop 3 : Create Your Own Toy Character 創作專屬玩具公仔

Discover the fun of toy character design! Each student will be given a doll model to colour and add accessories freely to create a unique toy character. You will experience the fundamentals of product modelling, 3D and accessory design, and inspire your interest in product design, laying a solid foundation for your future creative design development.
探索玩具角色設計的樂趣！每位同學將獲得1個公仔模型，自由上色及加添配件，發揮個人創意，設計獨一無二的玩具角色。工作坊讓你體驗產品造型、三維立體與配件設計的基礎，啟發你對產品設計的興趣，為日後的創意設計之路打好基礎。

Workshop 4 : Digital Body Printing 數碼人體塗鴉

A can’t-miss workshop for students to experience the complete process from drafting to digital illustration and then to creative printing. By using digital tools, you will transform your ideas into vibrant electronic doodles and utilise a handheld device press for body art, inspiring everyone’s sense of touch in fashion.
不能錯過的體驗，由起稿到數碼繪圖、再進行創意打印的完整過程。透過數碼工具將創意轉化為生動的電子塗鴉，並利用手提打印機進行人體彩印，激發同學的時尚觸覺。

Workshop 6 : Upcycling Denim Rose Workshop 升級再造牛仔玫瑰花工作坊

Upcycling discarded denim fabric into unique, everlasting denim roses through creativity! Students will select and cut denim fabric—no sewing experience required. Let’s transform waste into treasured accessories, integrating environmental protection values into daily life while unleashing green creativity.
廢棄的牛仔布料升級再造成與別不同的牛仔玫瑰花，親手將舊牛仔布「華麗變身」！同學將親自選擇和剪裁牛仔布料，無需任何縫紉經驗。體驗將廢棄材料轉化為珍貴飾品，把環保理念融入日常生活之中，發揮綠色創意。
