余頌華教授畢業於中國廣州暨南大學醫學院臨床醫學專業，取得內外全科醫學士學位。隨後，余教授在香港中文大學醫學院兒科學系攻讀研究生課程，分別取得臨床醫學哲學碩士、博士學位。 余教授的研究主要集中於兒童肥胖、體能活動的測量、體適能與心肺功能的評估，以及針對有特殊學習需要兒童的運動介入。她曾參對本港兒童腰圍數據和心血管關係的分析研究、 6分鐘步行測試和心肺功能測試（峰值攝氧量 Peak VO2）等研究項目。她的研究團隊為幼稚園及小學自閉症兒童設計了一套多維度訓練計劃，並編制了一系列有實證基礎的運動訓練手冊。該運動手冊於2018年在加拿大國際發明創新大賽（iCAN 2018）中榮獲銀牌。余教授曾獲得並完成具競爭力的外部研究資助，包括「優配研究金」及「醫療衞生研究基金」。 除了研究工作外，余教授亦有任教本科及研究生課程。她參與的學科團隊於2024年憑藉「研究方法與統計學」課程獲得學院團隊卓越教學成就獎，並於2024/25學年憑「功能解剖學」課程獲得本學系之傑出教學團隊獎。 目前，余教授擔任中國香港運動醫學及科學學會(HKASMSS)榮譽司庫及學會轄下的「科學與研究委員會」委員。
