余颂华教授毕业于中国广州暨南大学医学院临床医学专业，取得内外全科医学士学位。随后，余教授在香港中文大学医学院儿科学系攻读研究生课程，分别取得临床医学哲学硕士、博士学位。
余教授的研究主要集中于儿童肥胖、体能活动的测量、体适能与心肺功能的评估，以及针对有特殊学习需要儿童的运动介入。她曾参对本港儿童腰围数据和心血管关系的分析研究、 6分钟步行测试和心肺功能测试（峰值摄氧量 Peak VO2）等研究项目。她的研究团队为幼儿园及小学自闭症儿童设计了一套多维度训练计划，并编制了一系列有实证基础的运动训练手册。该运动手册于2018年在加拿大国际发明创新大赛（iCAN 2018）中荣获银牌。余教授曾获得并完成具竞争力的外部研究资助，包括「优配研究金」及「医疗卫生研究基金」。
除了研究工作外，余教授亦有任教本科及研究生课程。她参与的学科团队于2024年凭借「研究方法与统计学」课程获得学院团队卓越教学成就奖，并于2024/25学年凭「功能解剖学」课程获得本学系之杰出教学团队奖。
目前，余教授担任中国香港运动医学及科学学会(HKASMSS)荣誉司库及学会辖下的「科学与研究委员会」委员。
