Adams教授擁有逾30年學術研究及高等教育經驗，曾任職於多所英國及澳洲著名大學。他的跨學科研究計劃涵蓋健康服務研究、公共衞生及健康社會科學等範疇，運用多元研究設計與方法，為社區、病人、醫護專業人員及政策制定者提供具影響力的實證知識與政策啟示。
Adams教授的研究範圍廣泛，包括：基層醫療及專職醫療服務；傳統、補充及整合醫學（Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine, TCIM）；社區為本醫療實踐與自我健康管理；各類慢性疾病患者的生活經驗與照護需要，尤其聚焦於中風、情緒障礙、認知障礙症及肌肉骨骼疾病；生活質素與福祉、疾病預防及生活方式醫學；健康老齡化；數碼健康科技的共同設計與實踐應用；婦女健康；癌症及紓緩治療；健康城市與城市規劃設計；以及弱勢社群和人口的健康與照護等多個領域。
Adams教授至今已發表超過640篇學術著作，包括8本國際醫療研究專書。他曾主持及參與超過50項研究項目，累計獲得超過1.4億港元等值的外部研究資助，並經常與國際重要健康機構及非學術合作夥伴開展研究，包括各國衞生部門、世界衞生組織（WHO）、泛美衞生組織（PAHO）、美國公共衞生協會（APHA）及澳洲糖尿病協會（Diabetes Australia）等。
其卓越研究成就獲國際廣泛認可，曾獲頒備受推崇的富布賴特高級學者獎學金（Fulbright Senior Scholarship，2019–2020），並於2007年至2019年間連續獲得三項澳洲國家健康與醫學研究委員會（NHMRC）及澳洲研究委員會（ARC）研究學人計劃資助，包括享負盛名的ARC Future Fellowship（教授級）。
此外，Adams教授現為牛津大學納菲爾德基層醫療健康科學系（Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences）牛津國際基層醫療研究領袖培訓計劃（Oxford International Primary Health Care Research Leadership Programme）的高級研究員（Senior Fellow），亦獲多所世界知名大學委任為客座教授，包括英國倫敦帝國理工學院（Imperial College London）。
