Abstract:
Clinical education is a core component of our curricula to provide students with clinical exposure and hands-on practice on patients with different clinical conditions in order to acquire necessary professional attitudes and behaviours, clinical reasoning, skills and competencies for their clinical practice in future. It is designed to meet both local and world education standards, blending conceptual and procedural pre-clinical and professional knowledge, and to transfer them in ways that enhance the development of competent practitioners.  To achieve the goal of training competent entry-level practitioners, academic faculty and clinical educators work closely together to ensure the best integration of academic teaching and clinical education.

In order to meet the changes in professional practice settings as well as the expansion of rehabilitation service delivery models in the community in recent years, revamping of the evaluation systems for students’ clinical performances in OT and PT programmes was conducted. In the OT programme, the refined second edition of the Student Practice Evaluation Form (SPEF-R2) was employed in view of its sound validity and reliability. Similarly, in the PT programme, the "Assessment of Physiotherapy Practice" (APP) has been adopted as the standardized instrument to evaluate students’ clinical performance. The APP is a rigorous, validated, and internationally recognized tool designed to assess professional behaviours and clinical competencies across diverse physiotherapy practice settings. In this seminar, speakers from both programmes will share more details about these updated evaluation systems, and explore how these tools facilitate the development of future-ready, competent graduates.
