Welcome to the Otto Poon Charitable Foundation Research Institute for Smart Energy (RISE)!

RISE 5 Focus Areas

RISE was established in 2020 as a university-level platform for multi- and interdisciplinary research in Smart Energy at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. With about 50 faculty members from 12 departments, RISE aims to pursue translational research for innovative solutions for energy-related problems, and foster a university community for conducting interdisciplinary research with greater impacts.

RISE focuses on advancing five foci of smart energy development, namely “district energy systems and smart grid”, “smart buildings and smart energy systems”, “advanced energy storage technologies”, “advanced and renewable energy conversion technologies” and “advanced energy materials”, covering both energy system technologies and enabling energy technologies.

We anticipate the establishment of cooperation with you and we are looking forward to your active participation via this platform as our academic, industrial or governmental partners. We also welcome young scientists to join RISE as researchers or PhD students to strengthen your academic records or pursue your PhD studies.

We invite you to explore the exciting energy research done by RISE and, if possible, join our energetic and diverse team!

We look forward to working with you! Let’s “RISE to the challenge” on energy together!
