Presentation Title: Offshore Wind Energy Development in China: State of the Art and Future Perspectives
Offshore wind technology has proven to be a feasible renewable energy solution and thus contributes to carbon neutrality worldwide. Generally, the fabrication and installation of offshore wind turbine foundations accounts for about 30% of the overall cost. The complicated marine and geological conditions in China make the construction very challenging and costly. Therefore, it is essential to adopt efficient construction technologies to reduce the cost of installation and promote the development of the offshore wind industry in China. This public seminar presents the state-of-the-art of the offshore wind industry in China and addresses a few most important technological problems encountered in engineering practice. The future development trend and possible solutions of the offshore wind technology will also be discussed.

Biography
Ir Prof. Richard Zhu is the Director of Advanced Energy Science and Technology Guangdong Laboratory (Yangjiang Offshore Wind Energy Laboratory) and the Dean of South China Industrial Technology Research Institute of Zhejiang University. Richard earned his PhD from University of Akron and specializes in offshore wind power engineering technology. He is also a registered engineer (PE) in the United States, with 13 years of study and working experience in the United States and Europe. He has been granted 136 domestic and international technology patents. He served American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) in Houston for 4 years. Afterwards, he also served as the Vice President and Chief Scientist of Mingyang Smart Energy Group Limited, which is a listed company on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
