A senior PolyU delegation recently visited several top universities in South Korea to strengthen our global academic partnerships and take our collaborations to the next level.

PolyU has established a close rapport with the Korean academic and student communities over the years. Indeed, Korean students form the University’s largest international student community, with about 150 full-time Korean students studying at different levels across various disciplines in addition to exchange students. Three of the Deans from PolyU’s nine faculties and schools are also distinguished academics from South Korea.

The delegation, led by Council Chairman Dr Lam Tai-fai and joined by President Prof. Jin-Guang Teng and Vice President (Student and Global Affairs) Prof. Ben Young, visited the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Seoul National University (SNU), and Yonsei University between 18 and 20 April 2023. The three universities, all listed among the global top 100 in the latest QS and THE rankings, are among the 14 South Korean institutions that have student exchange partnerships with PolyU.

In the delegation’s meetings with the respective university presidents – Prof. Kwang Hyung Lee of KAIST, Dr Honglim Ryu of SNU, and Prof. Seoung Hwan Suh of Yonsei University – both sides explored further cooperation in doctoral level programmes and identified research collaboration opportunities, including the prospects of establishing joint research labs.

The PolyU delegation also paid a class visit at the Seoul International School, where Miss Grace Moon, who is studying at PolyU’s School of Design, shared her experience with the students. 

PolyU is ranked sixth globally in the latest THE World’s Most International Universities rankings and 26th in the QS Asia University Rankings. The University has been actively engaging more prospective students from around the world to study at PolyU.
