Prof. Eric Friginal, Professor and Head of the Department of English and Communication of PolyU, shared his views on the use of disruptive technologies such as ChatGPT in education in the RTHK programme “Backchat” alongside other experts on the panel.

Prof. Friginal reflected that such new technologies are now very accessible and can be transformative. However, he added that although ChatGPT could generate logical responses to user prompts, there is a tendency for it to say something that is inaccurate because of its modelling. Students need to be aware that they are responsible for ensuring the quality of the work they submit and the ethics involved.
