Summary

Aged buildings in Hong Kong increasingly suffer from severe pipe corrosion and hidden water leakage. These persistent defects cause concrete spalling, compromise structural integrity, and foster hazardous mold growth that directly endangers public health and safety.

In this research salon, Prof. WONG will present the first annual progress of his project that aims to develop an innovative AI-embedded platform combining aerial and ground-based thermal infrared (TIR) imaging, 3D digital modeling, and advanced deep learning for rapid, non-destructive leakage detection.

By delivering actionable insights to key government departments, this research will preserve building safety, reduce long-term maintenance costs, safeguard residents' health, and support sustainable urban infrastructure management.
